Alvera Abshire Obituary

Alvera Abshire

July 1, 1928 - January 24, 2026

Alvera Dean Plunkett Abshire, 97, of Boones Mill, Virginia, went to be with her Lord and Savior,

Saturday, January 24, 2026. She was a lifelong member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren.

She was born July 1, 1928, to Dean Stanley and Georgia Ann Flora Plunkett on their farm in Boones Mill. She lived all but a few years of her life a few hundred yards from her birthplace in the home built by her late husband of 53 years, Charles Thomas Abshire, Jr. (C.T.) She loved her home with its view of the woods and fields and Blue Ridge Mountains.

She was also preceded in death by her twin sister, Alvena Flora Plunkett Edens, two older sisters, Dorothy Plunkett Hill and Virginia Plunkett Sink, and two older twin brothers, Jarius and Darius Plunkett.

Surviving are two daughters, Deana Abshire Pugh (David) and Crystal Gail Abshire of Austin, Texas, and several nieces and nephews.

Pastor Greg Broyles will conduct the memorial service on Thursday, February 5 at Lotz Roanoke Chapel at 10 a.m. with a private graveside service at the Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.

The best way to remember her is to take time daily to appreciate the beauty of God's world as she always did.

Dear Deana and Crystal. She was always a kind and gentle lady and aunt. I am disabled and not very mobile right now. I do live right at the cemetery and would love to see you both. Email me if that is possible. Love and precious memories. Denise
