James "Jim" Loomis Obituary

James "Jim" Loomis of River Falls, Wisconsin, passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 at Wellhaven Assisted Living. Jim was born on August 24, 1940, in McGrath, Minnesota, to Clyde and Nancy Loomis. He graduated from Superior East High School before continuing his education at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, where he earned his degree in elementary education.

During this time, Jim married the love of his life, Dianne VanRossem, in Superior, Wisconsin. After earning his college degree, he embarked on a career in education. In 1972, he and Dianne moved to Shell Lake, Wisconsin, where Jim accepted a teaching position. Over the next 26 years, he became not only a dedicated educator but also a beloved figure in the lives of his students. A lifelong sports enthusiast, he served as the head coach of the junior high basketball team and assistant coach for the football team, instilling discipline, teamwork, and a love of sports in many young athletes. His passion for community extended beyond the classroom, and he was an active member of the Shell Lake Lions Club, where he continued to serve and positively impact those around him.

Jim was known for his strength of character-his valor and grit were evident in both his personal and professional life. Whether through his unwavering commitment to education or his readiness to lend a hand wherever needed, he exemplified what it meant to give selflessly.

Outside of work, Jim had many hobbies that brought him joy. He loved spending time with friends, often enjoying rounds of golf, and had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Jim liked woodworking in his garage making small furniture and knick knacks for friends and family members. He and Dianne cherished watching their grandchildren's school and sporting events. Jim loved being in the woods hunting deer and small game birds, an activity he shared with family and friends. However, what truly defined him was his love for family. Even in his final days Jim made it clear to tell all his grandkids and great-grandkids how very proud he was of all of them. He had a quick wit and a generous sense of humor, always bringing laughter to those around him-whether during a lively Packers game, a simple family dinner, or even breaking into song on occasion.

In his retirement years, Jim embraced the opportunity to travel, spending winters in Lake Havasu, Arizona with friends and family, and a trip to Europe. These experiences reflected his curiosity and zest for life.

Jim is survived by his children, Bill (Shelly) Loomis, Terence (Amy) Loomis, and Dana (Paul) Breiter; grandchildren, Cameron (Melissa) Loomis, Garrett Loomis, Kyle Loomis, Bryce Loomis, Ryan Loomis, Drew (Aison) Kollos, Bridgette (Mitchell) Magee, and Quinton (Brianna) Kollos; great-grandchildren, Brooks, Maegan, Beau, Rollie, Nikki-Jean; siblings, Marjorie Kuhlman and Joanne (Charles) DeSmet; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dianne; siblings, Ruth (Fred) Rezabek, Clorine (Lawrence) Resel, Mary (Ralph) Thomson, Norma Jean (Robert) Nelson, and Joyce (Stanley) Zielinski; and brother-in-law, Harry Kuhlman. Jim's legacy of love, humor, and community service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
