Eveyln Ross Obituary

MASSACHUSETTS - Evelyn passed peacefully on January 16, 2025.

After graduating from high school, she attended a small liberal arts college in Pennsylvania, Ursinus, while working summer jobs at Macy's, wearing long gloves in the unairconditioned subway commute, in New York. She continued her studies on scholarship, earning a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Maxwell School at Syracuse University in New York.

Evelyn moved to Washington, DC, where she shared a townhouse in Georgetown with other young, accomplished, career women - not so common in the 1950's - and where she worked for the Department of the Navy. She met her future husband, George W. Ross, a World War II veteran on leave from government assignment in Indonesia, at a party in Georgetown. After turning down 4 previous suitors, she accepted George's proposal and their 6 decade marriage took them to New York City, Hong Kong - where they had 4 children in 5 years. The family moved to Glen Ridge, New Jersey from 1965-1973, then Wakefield,

Rhode Island from 1973-1998, Norton Massachusetts from 1998-2022, and finally North Andover, Massachusetts from 2022-2025.

Evelyn worked at the University of Rhode Island for many years, was active in the League of Women Voters, and served on various boards of local non-profit organizations whose missions she supported. She had a sharp mind and was particularly fond of classical music and theater; she kept abreast of current events and enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her 4 children and 6 grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
