Alice Greenwood Obituary

Odessa - Alice Ray King Greenwood ran into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the age of 100. She was born on July 8, 1925, in Ft. Worth, Texas to Conant and Bernice King, the youngest of five children. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters, her husband Morris, her daughter Betsy Greenwood Monro, her daughter in law, Lisa Greenwood, and two great grandchildren, Joshua Roe and Keaton Anderson.

Alice grew up in Ft. Worth, Texas. She graduated from Paschal High School and went on to earn her bachelor's degree from Mary Hardin - Baylor and master's degree from the University of Texas Permian Basin. On December 29, 1944, she married the love of her life, Morris Cook Greenwood Sr. Together they raised 5 children and were married for 62 years before his passing in 2007.

She is survived by her two sons, Morris Greenwood and wife Linda of Huffman, Tx. and Thomas Greenwood of Rockwall, Tx.; two daughters, Kathleen Anderson and husband Bob of Midland, Tx. and Peggy Roe and husband Gary of Odessa, Tx. She is survived by her 12 grandchildren and their spouses: Kristen Roe, Bobby and Brooke Anderson, Andy and Lesley Monro, Jenny and Mark LaCroix, Karin and Ryan Stephens, Sarah and Scott Herrington, Christopher Monro, Rebecca and Jordan Richard, Amanda and Brandon Chance, Joseph Greenwood, Jeremy and Regine Greenwood, Jordan and Brooks Brinkman. She is also survived by 17 great - grandchildren: Phillip, Avery, Cook, Cale, Cam, Samantha, Hannah, Chance, Flint, Ryder, Noah, Katie, Jackson, Mac, Caleb, Collier, and Alex as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Alice was a child of God, first and foremost, but she wore many hats. She was a teacher, poet, composer, pianist, and volunteer just to name a few, but she always said her greatest accomplishment was being a Mother, Grandmother and Mimi.

Alice spent 30 plus years in the classrooms of Ector County Independent School District as well as time in California. Alice and Morris were long time members of Crescent Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and served in many other capacities for many years. Alice had a heart for service and upon her retirement from teaching, she and Morris decided to embark on a new journey of sharing their faith and love of Jesus Christ all over the United States by combining it with their love of camping and travel. They became a part of Campers On Mission and Alice composed a song that was adopted as the official theme song for the National Campers on Mission organization. Alice served others in many ways including volunteering for Meals on Wheels, teaching Sunday School, playing the piano and organ for multiple churches, leading GA's, and the most important one of all, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others.

Alice was a gifted musician and poet. At the age of 6, Alice learned how to play the piano. She loved playing the old hymns and she continued to do that until her passing. She composed multiple songs, several of which were published. She had a passion for writing and that love of words led her to become a published poet and story teller, winning multiple contests as well as having one of her poems put to music. She loved researching her family lineage and visiting with others. Alice had a way of making sure that she was present for every conversation and making you feel like you were the most important person in the room.

Alice lived a long life and has left behind a legacy for generations to come. She is now sitting at the feet of Jesus, no longer in pain, and reunited with those who have gone before her. She will be greatly missed yet we rejoice in her home going.
