Roberta Fiali Obituary
Roberta Nan Lockerbie Fiali
Born: September 14, 1935
Died: March 21, 2026
Roberta Nan Lockerbie Fiali – beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and woman of enduring faith – passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on March 21, 2026, at the age of 90. She lived a life as full and vibrant as the Scottish highlands from which her heritage sprang, and her spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on September 14, 1935, Roberta carried her proud Scottish roots with grace and warmth throughout her remarkable nine decades. She split her time between the shores of Kihei, Maui and their farm in McHenry, Illinois and later in her "tiny cottage" in Wonder Lake, IL – a life lived in two beautiful places, always made richer by the people she loved.
A devoted member of the Episcopal faith, Roberta's relationship with God was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of St. Paul Episcopal Church in McHenry, IL for 56 years. She also attended Trinity Episcopal Church By Sea in Kihei, Maui for 34 years. Her faith was not quiet or hidden – it was woven into her every kindness, her every word of encouragement, and her steadfast presence for her family. She was the kind of woman whose trust in the Lord gave those around her a sense of peace and belonging.
She was a member and past Honored Queen of Bethel #14 in Elmhurst, IL. She told many stories of her time in the International Order of Job's Daughters.
Roberta had a particular flair that those who knew her will never forget: she believed that no occasion was too small for a fancy hat. Whether dressing for Sunday service or simply stepping out to greet the day, she did so with style, joy, and a touch of elegance. She also treasured traveling to be near her family – because for Roberta, no destination was sweeter than wherever the people she loved happened to be.
Roberta was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 58 years, John Nicholas Fiali and her loving parents Ralph Lockerbie and Doris Clark.
She is survived by her son, Rory John Fiali, and his wife Bonnie; her beloved granddaughters, Brandie (Kyle) Mai, and Danielle (Justin) Cramer; and her precious great-grandchildren, Mason, Evan, Jase, and Mila. She is also lovingly survived by her "sister" Dore Bergfors and 'summer sons and daughters,' who found a second mother in Roberta, and made memories on her farm that shaped them forever.
Roberta Nan Lockerbie Fiali did not simply live a long life – she lived a magnificent one. She leaves behind a family who adored her, a faith that sustained her, and a legacy of love that will endure far beyond her years. May she rest in the glory she always believed in, wearing the finest hat heaven has to offer.
"Well done, good and faithful servant." – Matthew 25:23
