Robert A. Higgins, 94, of Marengo died Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at Shepherd Premier Senior Living, Harvard.
He was born January 12, 1932 in Belvidere, the son of James and Loretta (Deneen) Higgins. Robert served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married his loving wife in 1953.
Robert worked at Arnold Engineering for 28 years, retiring in 1990. He was also the owner of Car-Deen Water Conditioning and worked side by side with his son for a few years. Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, but also took time to go golfing and work on the yard. He was a kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be missed by all who had the chance to know him.
Survivors include his children, Susan (Gordon) Glorch, Scott (Teresa) Higgins and Lynn (George) Ohlendorf; grandchildren, Courtney (Scott) Deal, Kim (fiancé Junior Hernandez) Glorch, Ashley (Michael) Grace and Paige (Tom) Schultz; great-grandchildren, Aidan, Nadia, Axel, Rowan, Levi, Anderson, Conor, Caden, and Claire; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Joann in March of 2025; seven siblings; and two infant granddaughters.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to the incredible staff at Shepherd Premier for all they've done.
Memorial visitation will be Thursday, March 19, 2026 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in the Parish Hall of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 323 N. Taylor (please use entrance off North Page St, east side of church). Visitation continues Friday, March 20 from 9 to 9:45 a.m. in the church.
In lieu of flowers please make memorials in his name to Saint Croix Hospice, 185 Buckley Dr. Suite B, Rockford, IL 61107. The family is being assisted by Fredrick Funeral Home, Hampshire.
