Eleonore R. Varga (nee Reiger), age 92, of Richmond, IL, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Journey Care Hospice, in Barrington, IL.
She was born on May 31, 1933 in Eisenberg, Austria, to Julius and Anna Meixner Reiger. She was married to Ernest C. Varga on April 12, 1955, in Deutzschutgen, Austria, and he died on December 22, 2017. Knitting, sewing, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family were some of her favorite pastimes. She was a member of St. Joseph Church in Richmond, and the McHenry County Farm Bureau. She worked as a customer service representative at Sears Roebuck and Company for 27 years, retiring in 2005.
Eleonore is survived by a daughter, Edith M. Varga of Richmond, IL; two sons, Ernest J. (Karen) Varga of Richmond, IL and Edward (Paige Soule) Varga of Richmond, IL; grandchildren, James R. Varga, Peterson J. R. Soule, Franz L. Mussared Varga and Hans M. Varga; and great-grandchildren, Eleonore L. Mussared Varga and Emmerson R. Mussared Varga.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Wayan (nee Reiger); and a brother, Julius Reiger.
Ceremonies will be held at the Church of Holy Apostles, Catholic Church, 5211 Bull Valley Road, McHenry, IL 60050, on Thursday, 3/26/26, (815) 385-5673. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A Mass of Resurrection in the chapel, with Fr. Richard Rosinski officiating, will be from10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life luncheon in the Father Sherry Hall will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Belmont Avenue and North Cumberland Avenue, River Grove, IL 60171, (708) 453-0184.
