Donald Schoenbeck Obituary

Donald (Don) Schoenbeck
Born: January 25, 1942 in Chicago, IL
Died: March 12, 2026 in Sandy, Utah
Donald (Don) Robert Schoebeck passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 12, 2026, surrounded by his family.
Born on January 25, 1942, Don was the son of the late Robert and Myrtle Schoebeck. He grew up in Edison Park, Chicago, and attended Taft High School. Don was a proud graduate of the University of Illinois and often shared fond memories of his time there.
Don spent most of his professional life in management consulting while residing in Illinois and was a longtime resident of Crystal Lake. In 2005, he moved to Sandy, Utah, where he found new friendships and meaningful community involvement. He was especially passionate about the Senior Free Thinkers, the Current Events Group, and the Utah Seniors for America-all of which he founded. He also enjoyed spending time at his local senior center, where he was an active member. His leadership, friendship, and thoughtful contributions to these groups will be fondly remembered by many.
Music played a special role in Don's life. He loved sharing songs and memories through his Senior Music and Memories Facebook group, where his joy for music connected and uplifted others.
Don is survived by his longtime partner, Barbara Franz; his son, Doug Schoebeck (Eleni); his daughter, Jenny Hendricks (Kipp); his sister, Carol Muderlak; and his grandchildren, Tyler Schoenbeck, Elizabeth Hendricks, and Jack Hendricks.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Profound Autism.

As a fellow free thinker, I can only think that Don is now truly free. Rest In Peace, Don.

As a long time member of his Senior Music and Memories Facebook page I was honored when Don asked me a few years ago if I would also be an administrator for the group. His thoughts were that he wasn´t getting any younger and that someone else should also be involved just in case. I was happy to accept and unfortunately just in case happened. I will do my best to continue the legacy he created. RIP Don.

I knew Don from our group at the senior center. I didn't know him well, but I was impressed by his intelligence, his compassion, and his commitment to making the world a better place. He will be missed.

I was honored enough to have a couple of long conversations with Don over the phone. He would share stories with me of his growing up in Chicago. He was a long time fan of the Chicago Cubs. He especially admired Ernie Banks. I would share stories of growing up in Glendale in SLC. I was lucky enough to have a friend that was a bat boy for the Bees. I shared how I was able to sit in the dugout during games and got to develop a fondness for cigar smoke.
He laughed and we both had great childhood. I miss his voice and his sense of humor. I was lucky to be able to know him!

Don was certainly a force of nature at the Sandy, Utah Senior Center. His intellect and interest in all things community will be missed there.
