Cynthia Denny
Born: September 11, 1936 in Chicago, IL
Died: March 12, 2026 in Cary, IL
Cynthia "Cindy" Tindall Denny, 89, passed away on March 12, 2026, and is now reunited with Robert, her beloved husband of 64 years.
Cindy was born September 11, 1936, in Chicago to Robert and Vivian (Bowen) Tindall and grew up in Ingleside, Illinois. She graduated from Grant High School in Fox Lake and later attended Beloit College before earning her teaching degree from Illinois State University. It was there that she met Robert Denny. They were married May 16, 1958, in Bloomington and made their home in Crystal Lake.
Cindy spent her life caring for others. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, godmother, and teacher who touched many lives with her kindness and encouragement. She loved boating on the Fox River as a child and cheering on the Grant High School Bulldogs, where she was also honored as Homecoming Queen. Summers at camp in Wisconsin helped shape her love for teaching and working with children.
For more than 20 years, Cindy taught swimming, much of that time on Crystal Lake, helping generations of children feel comfortable and confident in the water. She also worked as a Kindergarten teacher in District 155 and later as a substitute teacher throughout McHenry County. She had a gentle, patient way that made children feel safe and cared for.
Cindy also loved to bake and enjoyed making birthdays and holidays special. Her homemade cookies, birthday cakes, and ice cream cakes for family and friends were favorites and became a special part of many celebrations.
A longtime member of Bethany Lutheran Church for more than 64 years, Cindy taught summer Bible school and helped with outreach projects, including food donations for those in need.
In retirement, Cindy and Bob enjoyed traveling with Elderhostel and made many friendships along the way. They also hosted an AFS exchange student, Isabel Lagos Garcia-Burr from Santiago, Chile, and later visited her family in Chile 40 years later. Cindy and Bob also looked forward to their annual visits to Cindy's cousin, Mother Dolores Hart, at the Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Connecticut.
She is survived by her children, Tami Henneman of Chicago, Michele (Clay) Johnson of Austin, Texas, and Brian Denny (Rick Stark) of Island Lake; grandchildren, John Henneman, Bobby Johnson, and Matthew Johnson; brother-in-law Thomas Denny of Springfield; seven special nieces and nephews; and three grandnieces.
Cindy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her parents, Robert and Vivian Tindall.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 10, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W. Crystal Lake Avenue, Crystal Lake, from 9 a.m. until a funeral service at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Burial at Crystal Lake Memorial Park will take place after the luncheon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Three Oaks Memory Care for their care and kindness, and JourneyCare Hospice for the compassion shown during Cindy's final days.
Memorial donations may be made in Cindy's name to Bethany Lutheran Church or a
charity of your choice.
