I stayed with Liesel twice when my daughter was having surgery at the hospital. It was a very hard time for me and when I came home at night we always had a nice conversation. So sorry for your loss.

I was one of many of "Mrs. B's children" in the UPenn Combined Degree Program. There are so many fond memories of visits to her lovely home, meeting her family and dog, and wonderful chats during and after my days in the program. I will always remember Liesel with gratitude for her opening her heart to all of us.

Mrs. Baker took me in as part of her family when I was an MD/PhD student at Penn. I shared many holiday meals in her home, grating potatoes at Chanukah and celebrating the new year. I am so grateful that she and Lester came to our wedding and later my young sons had a chance to meet her. She even reached out and befriended my parents. I miss her generosity of spirit and always practical advice. She touched so many lives.

So sorry to hear about Liesel's passing. My Mother and I stayed with her while my daughter Sherry was in HUP receiving treatment many years ago. We always kept in touch with each other during the holidays. I knew something was wrong when I didn't hear from her last December. I decided to go online to see if there was any information. She was always so sweet to us. She was very concerned about our comfort and always had goodies for us to eat. I lost my Mother in June,2016. It is very hard to lose a parent. May your Mother rest in peace.

Liesel was a great help when my husband had open heart surgery a few years ago. She helped me navigate the city, and gave me good advice and comfort. It was a pleasure to stay in her lovely home and talk to her about many subjects. Rest in peace, Liesel.

May the God of all comfort strengthen the entire family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. (Psalms 116:15) My sincerest condolence.

I remember Liesel as a frightened young girl sitting at a desk in school, dark eyes, dark hair . She lived very near me in Lansdale,Pa. It had to have been in the early forties. My father was a dentist. I knew her whole family:Eric,Hedy and Helen, her sister. They were also kind to me and I remember some wonderful meals we shared together. She was actually two years ahead of me and she graduated from Penn before me. I think her life as her parents life was not easy coming from Germany growing up in a town that was not always welcoming.
So sorry to hear of her passing.

Liesel was a tremendous blessing to my family and I while I had the privilege of staying with her for 40 days because she was a volunteer with the Hosts for Hospitals program. We are from Scranton, PA, almost 3 hours away from Jefferson Neurological Hospital where my wife Cathy was life-flighted because of a double bleeding brain aneurysm. Thanks to Liesel I was able to be with Cathy for all 49 days of her recovery. (Yes, 10 years later our walking miracle is going strong.)
Liesel was a great comfort to me every night during my stay. After 10 hours at the hospital I would need to decompress. When I was sad because of difficulty that day Liesel would sit with me, pour me a class of wine and just let me talk. She would listen on the days Cathy made improvement and rejoice with me. In both cases the only time she spoke was to say a comforting word and many times she gave me much needed wise advice. Liesel was a very special lady and I will never forget her.

We moved to Philadelphia 2 years ago and in that short time grew to love Liesel as a dear friend and independent woman. We feel privileged to have enjoyed the symphony and shared holiday dinners with Liesel, and she welcomed us to the community. I drove her a few places, and she was never in doubt about where to tell me to turn, even if occasionally wrong. We will sorely miss Liesel's strong spirit and the world is lessened by her loss.

Liesel was an extraordinary woman. She was a valued neighbor and a wonderful friend. I can't count the number of times I had dinner there, along with stimulating conversation either with her or with other guests. The liquor cabinet was well stocked, the food was always excellent, and the welcoming atmosphere permeated everything. After I went through a devastating house fire, she allowed me to stay with her for five months until I could rent a permanent place. Her commonsense wisdom, emotional support and wry sense of humor were invaluable. My sense of loss is great, but I'm also thankful that she was active and productive for so many years. I never knew her late husband, and I know she missed him every day, but she channeled her sorrow into helping others.
