William Wood Obituary

William McKenny Wood, Jr., 90, of Summerville, SC passed away Tuesday, February 25th, 2025, surrounded by family. He was born on August 4th, 1934, in Alexandria, Virginia to the late William Wood, Sr. and Virginia Embrey Wood.
William graduated from Lovingston High School in 1951. Following school, William entered the US Navy, serving 26 years. Before furthering his education to become a Navy trained biomedical engineer, William married the love of his life, Rebecca Thompson Wood, spending 68 years together! Once retired from the Navy, he started his next career in civil service at the VA Hospital in Charleston. He was also a graduate of Trident Technical College. William had many enjoyments in life including woodworking, photography, cooking, building computers and most of all, spending time with his beloved family. William was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lovingston, VA. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed fishing. William wore many hats throughout his life and was successful in everything he put his mind to. He and his wife also enjoyed gemstone hunting and were champion bowlers at one time! He was a much beloved husband, father and grandfather who will be greatly missed.
William is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Wood; his daughter, Kimberly Pruitt (Brian); his grandson, Dakota McKenny Thompson Pruitt; his sisters: Patricia Perrin (Bill, who has passed) and Dawn Tyree (Kenneth, who has passed); brother-in-law: William H. Thompson, Jr. (Retha, who has passed); and a sister in law, Joanne T. Clarkson and her husband George Clarkson, who has passed; as well as many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Davis.
