Verlon Melton Obituary

VERLON H. Melton age 89 of Crab Orchard, TN passed away June 6, 2025. He was born May 2, 1936, in Lancing, TN, the son of Hugh G. and Hazel Kilby Melton. He retired after twenty five years with Commonwealth Insurance and later went to work with the Cumberland County Sheriffs Dept. during which time he served as Judicial Commissioner and was part of the Governors Task Force. He stayed active as a reserve officer after his retirement. He also served on the Cumberland County Rescue Squad for several years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and liked to garden. The greatest love he had was for the Lord and all his family. He was a devoted Christian man, and he and his wife Betty were members of Crab Orchard Christian Church.

He is survived by his wife of sixty eight years, Betty Melton of Crab Orchard, TN, son- Wayne Melton of Crossville, TN, daughter- Cynthia Perdue and her husband Dale of Crab Orchard, TN, brothers- Kenneth Melton and his wife Joetta and Junior Pugh all of Crab Orchard, TN, grandchildren- James Threet and his wife Leah, Ben Melton and Willa Moss and her husband Alan and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather- Carl Pugh and brother- Herman Pugh.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 11, 2025, at 1pm at Crab Orchard Christian Church. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11am-1pm two hours prior to the service at the church. The burial will be in Haley's Grove Cemetery.

The family has respectfully asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Crab Orchard Christian Church.
