Udo Grosse-Lengerich, a native of Ahaus, Germany, was raised in Hamburg and later became a resident of New Iberia. He passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, at 9:27 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
Udo was a very talented machinist specializing in tool and die work. In 1964, he moved from Germany to Australia to complete his apprenticeship before relocating to California in 1968. It was there, in 1987, that he met and courted Lucille. They often took walks from their home in Anaheim to Disneyland for dinner and dessert. They shared a love for traveling, raising their Pomeranians, Punky and Baby, playing bingo and spending time with family and friends. Udo especially loved telling stories of his many adventures. Udo and Lucille moved to Florida for a few years and ultimately came to settle in New Iberia to be closer to family. One of his greatest accomplishments was becoming a U.S. citizen.
He is survived by his daughter, Jeannette Gonsoulin (Chris); grandchildren, Jacques Gonsoulin (Jessica), Angele Gonsoulin (Peter Hornmeyer), Austin Gonsoulin and Fallyn Gonsoulin; great grandchildren, Carter and Hazel; and sister, Helga Bredich.
He is preceded in death by his loving partner Lucille; and parents, Henry & Margret Grosse-Lengerich.
Udo was a beloved son, brother, partner, uncle, father and grandfather. He was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your local humane society.
Thanks to his son-in-law Chris; his grandchildren Jacques, Angele, Austin, and Fallyn; Amy Crochet; Lindy and Randy Durham; and a special thanks to Melody at Louisiana Funeral Services.
A private service will be held at a later date.
