Ruth Derby Obituary

Ruth M. Derby, age 92, of Sugar Grove, IL passed away after a long illness on Thursday, October 17, 2024 at Asbury Garden in North Aurora, IL. She was born on May 31, 1932 in Oak Park, IL the daughter of John and Genevieve (Holmes) Sanderson. Ruth was united in marriage on October 16, 1954 to her lifetime companion, Floyd Derby. They recently celebrated 70 years of marriage, love, and adventure before her passing. How much life did they pack into that time? Ruth's answer: a lot. Seventy years of adventure and travel from every corner of the United States, Japan, Canada, and Europe. They welcomed four children; Jayne (David) Thomas of Georgia, Richard Derby of California, Thomas (Jennifer) Derby of North Carolina, and William (Jenny) Derby of Texas. As their children grew up and began families of their own, traveling earned a whole new meaning as they visited four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren across the country. We will remember her love of card games, cooking, and golf. The contagious laugh and humor. Her remarks, the stare, and rolling of the eyes were shared at no expense to all that knew her. We are sad that she may be gone but will continue to carry her in our hearts and minds. There will be a private ceremony for family.
