John S. Zablocki, 76, of
Niles, Michigan passed away Friday, January 16, 2026 at home after a brief illness.
John was born on December 30, 1949 in
Dowagiac, Michigan to the late Edwin and Billie Jean (Taylor) Zablocki.
He married Kay Munroe, his high school sweetheart, on January 8, 1971 at St. Mark Church in
Niles, Michigan. They shared 38 wonderful years together before her passing in August 2009.
John was a 1968 graduate of Brandywine High School. He went on to attend Southwestern Michigan College until he was drafted into the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and stationed in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
After he was honorably discharged from the Army, they returned to Niles where he was a heavy equipment operator for Selge Construction Co. for many years before becoming a self-employed contractor. One of his greatest joys was teaching his son the "tools of the trade" and working alongside him.
He also enjoyed traveling to the Upper Peninsula to indulge in outdoor adventures. John embraced the beauty of nature and the thrill of discovery. He was a familiar face at antique engine & tractor shows, sharing his enthusiasm with fellow enthusiasts. However, his greatest joy was found in the simple pleasure of spending time with his family. John was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was always up for a good treasure hunt and could fix just about anything.
He is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Alan) Eiker of Niles; his son, Joe (Rita Meyers) Zablocki of Niles; his cherished grandson & buddy Kayden Eiker of Niles; Rita's son, McKay Meyers; his brother, Tom (Susan) Zablocki of Cape Coral, Florida and nephew, Adam Zablocki of Florida. John also leaves behind his cherished cat, Harley, who was always by his side or as John would say "under his feet".
John was proceeded in death by his parents and wife, Kay.
In keeping with John's wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will be remembering him with a celebration of life at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to help cover funeral and other expenses. Contributions can be sent to Jennifer Eiker, 3985 Hidden Valley Trail So,
Niles, Michigan 49120.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
