SALEM - Phyllis Ruth Waggoner, 87, of Salem, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, surrounded by family.
She was born to Rufus Neal and Esther Helen (Jacobsen) Fassnacht on August 8, 1937, in Randolph, Ohio.
After graduating from Randolph High School, Phyllis dedicated her life to her family, taking pride in her role as a homemaker. She nurtured a household filled with love, laughter, and the joyous companionship only a close-knit family can provide. Phyllis's passions included reading, fishing, and engaging in spirited card games with her family.
Phyllis embraced the nomadic life of a military wife with grace and resilience. Her husband's career in the Air Force saw them traveling the United States and even calling France home for three years.
She is survived by her children, Jim (Sue) Waggoner, Sue Wollam, and Dave (Carol) Waggoner; grandchildren, Eric, Alex (Bree), and Christina; and two great-grandchildren. Her presence will also be missed by her three sisters, who share a lifetime of memories.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert "Bob" Waggoner; son-in-law, Robert "Wooly" Wollam, and many siblings.
Phyllis's final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband. A private family memorial will be held at Arlington to honor and celebrate her remarkable life.
Arrangements are being handled by Stark Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
