Patricia Ann Dozier (Known as "Pat" to her close family and friends) was born to the late Georgia Mae Epps Dozier and Lucious Dozier on February 26, 1949 in Newark, New Jersey. She transitioned peacefully on Monday, March 17, 2025.
Pat was educated in the Newark Public School system having graduated from Central High School in 1966.
Pat accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age and was baptized by the late Rev. George L. Ray at the Union Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey. She joined Science of Life Christian Church in Brooklyn, New York where she became a deaconess and served in ministries including visiting the sick and shut in. After relocating to Virginia she joined Ignite Church International under the leadership of Apostle Shawn Stephens where she served as a church mother.
Pat was in a relationship with Johnny Ray Flemming in 1971 and from this relationship was born her one daughter; Shana Raynette Dozier.
Pat graduated from Essex County College and attended Rutgers University. She was employed by Newark Public Library in 1966 from which she retired in 2009 as Supervisor Branch Manager of the Clinton Hill-Madison branch which has unfortunately closed its doors. She also worked at Springfield and Ferry Street branches as well.
Pat was a gifted communicator; she had a knack for speaking which soothed people and especially children which were drawn to her like bees to honey. Her hugs were something that children visiting the library scrambled to receive from her. She was instrumental in starting a chess club at the Clinton Hill branch. She was awarded by the Leaguers for her work with children. Pat found joy in literature and music with a special love of Jazz.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Curtis "Sonny" Epps, and her sister, Cassandra "Sandy" Dozier-Gold.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory: her beloved daughter, Shana; nieces, Tracey Lynn Gold-Thomas, Patricia Davis-Shepherd and Linda Davis; nephews, Victor Johnson and Jose Fadell; cherished cousins, Tamala Dozier-Dunn, Sharon Dozier-Shipman and Alice Dozier Corbin; her Goddaughter, Zahirra Wright-Gill; and a host of extended family and dear friends.
