Providence - Normanda (Cabral) Fagundo, lovingly known as Normanda to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at the Evergreen House Nursing Home. Born on March 18, 1937, in Lomba Da Fazenda, Nordeste, Sao Miguel, Azores, Normanda was a beacon of love and creativity throughout her 88 years.
Normanda was the cherished wife of the late Avelino Fagundo, with whom she shared a lifetime of love and devotion. She was the beloved daughter of the late Antonio Amaral Cabral and Maria Jose Cabral. As a mother, she nurtured and guided her children, Antonio Fagundo and his wife Lydia of North Providence, Jose Cabral and his wife Monica of Pawtucket, Ernesto Cabral and his wife Stacey of Johnston, Mario Cabral and his wife Elaine of Johnston, and Augusto Cabral and his wife Lisa of Seekonk. Normanda was the sister who shared a lifetime of memories with Carlos Amaral of Portugal, Jose Amaral of Portugal, Albano Amaral of Canada, Cizaltina Amaral of Portugal, and the late Manuel Amaral, and Conceicao Amaral. Her legacy continues through her 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored.
After moving to Providence from Portugal over 50 years ago, Normanda quickly became an integral part of her community. She dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker, infusing her home with warmth and comfort. As a devout parishioner of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, her faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and solace.
Normanda's interests were as varied as they were rich. She found joy in cooking, often creating traditional Portuguese dishes that would bring the whole family together. Her gardens were a testament to her love for beauty and nature, as she tended to her flower beds with a gentle and patient hand. Sewing, knitting, and crocheting were more than hobbies for Normanda; they were expressions of her creative spirit. She was an excellent seamstress, often making her own clothing with the same care and attention to detail that she put into every aspect of her life.
Those who knew Normanda remember her as a loving, faith-filled, and creative soul. She had the ability to turn the ordinary into something extraordinary, whether through a beautifully crafted garment or a simple, heartfelt conversation. Her presence was a comfort, and her legacy is one of unwavering love and dedication to her family and community.
Normanda's life was a tapestry of rich experiences, shared joys, and enduring faith. She will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her spirit, characterized by her loving nature and creative essence, will continue to inspire her family and friends for generations to come.
