Nancy Pallas Obituary

Nancy Rose O'Brien Pallas, 93, passed away Friday, January 30, 2026, at St. John's Home, Rochester, New York.

Born in Rome, New York on December 3, 1932, she was the youngest daughter of Frank J. and Rose Abbey O'Brien. Nancy lived in Rome until 2021, when she moved to Rochester to be near her youngest daughter.

She graduated in 1950 from Saint Aloysius Academy in Rome and attended Saint Elizabeth's nursing school. She married Albert J. Pallas, on August 20,1955 in St. Peter's Church in Rome, New York. They were married for almost 69 years before Al's passing in 2024.

Nancy worked for Rome Manufacturing before working at home taking care of her family. Over the years, Nancy was extremely active in the Rome community. She was a member and past president of Delta Omega Sorority, a member of the Wednesday Morning Club, the Rome Historical Society, and Bittersweet Twig. She served on the boards of the Rome Home and the Salvation Army in Rome. She was a great supporter of music and the arts, and frequently attended events at the Rome Art and Community Center. She enjoyed many concerts performed by the Syracuse Symphony held at the Capitol Theatre in Rome. She loved going to and hosting parties, going out to dinner, especially with the Palmers, and playing bridge with her longtime friends in the "bridge club". Nancy was an avid history buff and enjoyed visiting historical sites. She was a voracious reader and frequently visited Rome's Jervis library. She loved to garden and grew many beautiful flowers of all kinds over the years. Nancy played golf and was a member of the McConnellsville Golf Club. She and Al were also active members of the Rome Club, where they enjoyed the food, drink, and social scene. Nancy very much enjoyed spending time with her neighbors in the Forest Lane community in Rome before moving to Rochester.

Nancy was a faithful member of St. Peter's Church in Rome, attending mass regularly. She served on St. Peter's Altar Rosary Society.

Nancy loved her friends and family. She was predeceased by her dear husband, Albert, her parents, and her siblings; Elizabeth (Paul) Troutman, Robert O'Brien and Edwin O'Brien. She leaves behind her children; daughter, Mary Elizabeth (Matthew) Babcock of Clarence Center, New York, son, Thomas F. (Debbi Zamboni) Pallas of Albany, New York, and daughter, Carol A. Pallas of Rochester, New York. Her grandchildren; Thomas G. (Mallory Squires) Babcock of West Seneca, New York, Stephen C. (Lindsay DelGrosso) Babcock of Williamsville, New York, Gregory O. (Elizabeth Vogt) Babcock of Austin, Texas, Katherine C. Babcock (Michael Brager) of Troy, New York, Kayla (Nate) Stanley of Albany, New York, and Andrew (Amber Stiller) Pallas of Ballston Spa, New York. Nancy also leaves her great grandchildren; Gideon Babcock, Callum Babcock, Jett Stanley, Beau Babcock, Rhemy Pallas and Bruce Brager. In addition, she leaves behind a niece, Anne O. Troutman and a great-nephew, Andrew Keeler, both of Long Island, New York, and a nephew, Robert P. Troutman of Rochester, New York, and great-nephews, James Troutman of New Haven, CT, and David Troutman, of Albany, NY.

Nancy was a sharp, stylish, and joyous woman who loved life to the fullest. She was a great shopper, dressed impeccably at all times, and was the very definition of class. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her as mom, grandma, great grandma and friend.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff of St. John's Home for their care of Nancy in the brief time that she was there. Special thanks to long-time friends Margaret Palmer and Robert VanSlyke for always checking in.

Nancy's Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at Saint Peter's Church, 200 N. James Street Rome. Interment will take place in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to call at Saint Peter's Church prior to the mass on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM. My last conversation with Nancy was telling her I missed seeing her in Rome and she admitted she missed Rome. I knew Nancy for years through organizations and can attest to her impeccable appearance! She was a pleasant and personable lady with a sense of humor. May she Rest in Pease and my condolences to her family.

Mary Ellabeth, Tommy and carol, It is with heartfelt sadness that I have read about your mothers passing. Knowing her through your uncle Bob was a pleasure in itself, Nancy was always such a kind sweet lady, all the while showing admiration for her children. It was my pleasure to have been part of your family for so many years. May God grant you peace during this sad time.
