Michael Hill, passed away on November 13, 2024. A visitation will be held on November 17, 2024, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM, with a rosary recited at 3:00 PM, at Matthews Funeral Home in Jennings, LA.
He will be cherished by all that knew him as one of warmth, laughter, and an ever-open door to friendship. Michael passed away in Elton, LA, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and stories that could keep you entertained for hours on end. He was the kind of guy who never met a stranger and could turn any frown upside down. His ability to crack a joke, even in the most mundane situations, was nothing short of a superpower.
He is survived by the mother of his children and dear friend, Kathey Matte. Together, they raised a trio of offspring who inherited their dad's wit and wisdom: Brent and Wendy Hill, Greg and Jessica Hill, and Melissa and Mike Savoy. Michael was the proud patriarch of a bustling family tree, which included his siblings Gareth and Trisha Hill, Randall and Beneth Hill, Kenneth "Boo" and Phyllis Hill, and Steve Hill, as well as his sister, Nelda Walsh. His 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren brought him endless joy and occasional mischief, both of which he cherished deeply.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lelia Hill, and his brother, Douglas Hill. Together, they await a heavenly family reunion, where the coffee is always hot, and the stories never get old.
In his earthly life, Michael was a lifelong rice farmer and truck driver. His interests were simple yet profound. He was one of a kind, with a heart as big as his personality. His love for his family was the kind of love that didn't need to be spoken-it was felt in every bear hug, in every joke shared, and in every knowing glance across a room full of people. Michael was a creature of habit, and one of those habits were his early morning coffee visits at Spots or Mr. T's with the coffee drinking crew.
Michael Hill's life was a masterclass in the art of not taking oneself too seriously. He was a reminder that the best things in life aren't things at all, but the moments shared with those we love. He taught us to laugh often, to love deeply, and to always leave room for one more cup of coffee. He gave his advice rather you wanted it or not.
As we say goodbye to Michael, let's honor his memory by living as he did-with open hearts, an open door, and perhaps most importantly, an open pot of coffee.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Matthews Funeral Home of JENNINGS 511 N. Cutting Avenue Jennings, LA 70546.

Michael was my best friend. We didn´t get to see each other very often. When we did, it was like he never went away. My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Love Melinda
