Mary A. (Medeiros) Souza, 89, of Dartmouth passed peacefully February 25, 2025 at her childhood home surrounded by her family.
She was the wife of the late Antero "Monty" Souza.
Born in Arrifes, Sao Miguel, Azores, daughter of the late Abilio and Amelia (Moreira) Medeiros, she lived in Dartmouth many years.
She was formerly employed as a stitcher at several local textile mills, was an aide at Paul A. Dever School and later was a Portuguese teacher at Bishop Stang High School. Her favorite job was that of mother.
Mrs. Souza was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University, class of 1984.
She enjoyed spending time with her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren, crocheting, playing cards especially High Low Jack, baking, cooking and especially hosting Sunday dinners. She was an avid New England Patriots fan.
Survivors include her 6 children, Deborah McLaughlin, Karen Tavares and her husband Michael, Wayne Souza and his wife Jeannette, Paul Souza and his wife Christine, Gregg Souza and his wife Carrie, and Lolly Owens and her husband Christopher; a brother, John Medeiros of Alabama; 12 wonderful grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was the mother-in-law of the late Joseph McLaughlin and the sister of the late Liberal "Libby" Medeiros, Maria Eugenia Mare and Maria Odett Massa.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday, February 28th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church in Dartmouth at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, February 27th from 4-7 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or www.stjude.org or to St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Mary's Church, 783 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth, MA 02748.
