Mary Lorena "Lo" Joseph Montgomery was called home on October 19, 2024. She was born January 24, 1947, to the late Olivia Gilbert DeCuire and L.C. Joseph. Although born in Milton, Louisiana, Lo was raised in Erath, Louisiana, and spent her adult life in
Abbeville, Louisiana, and her last years in
Lafayette, Louisiana. She retired after years of employment with Hebert's Meat Market. There, she did a little of everything but reigned in customer service as she greeted and treated her customers like family. She knew what they wanted before they asked and was
genuinely concerned about them and their families.
Lo was a God-fearing woman who relied on her faith to see her through. Even when things became tough, she attended mass on Wednesdays and Sundays. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Nothing lit up her eyes like having her siblings, children, and grandchildren gather during the holidays. Often, those gatherings were held at her home in Abbeville. She loved styling her hair, listening to music, dancing, and watching Lifetime TV and scary movies. Lo's final days were spent at the River Oaks Retirement Manor. She never met a stranger, so she made quick friends with other residents. She was also the River Oaks Valentine Queen and wore that crown proudly.
Lo was preceded in death by her parents, Olivia Gilbert DeCuire and L.C. Joseph; her brothers, Charles Wilson, Nelson DeCuire, and Alvin Joseph; and her sister, Barbara Mouton, grandchildren, Mark Montgomery, Jr. and Kerra Montgomery.
She leaves to cherish her memories her children Terrie (Stanley)Gray, Sonya (Reginald) Christopher, Amy Montgomery, Eric (Hope) Montgomery, and Mark (Kawanna) Montgomery; her sister Marisha (Roy) St. Julien, Tammy (Thomas) Butler, and Brothers L.C. Joseph, Jr. and Teryl (Charlene) DeCuire; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
