Mary Lou (Hasson) McCarthy, age 90, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2025, at Immaculate Mary Nursing Home in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Born on February 16, 1935, in Havre de Grace, Maryland, Mary Lou was the daughter of the late Sterling and Eleanor (Link) Hasson. She spent her early years in Maryland before eventually settling in Philadelphia, where she built a life and career. Mary Lou dedicated many years of service to the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia, contributing her skills and commitment to public service.
Mary Lou was known for her vibrant spirit and zest for life. She was a proud member of the Susquehanna American Legion Auxiliary Unit 135 in Perryville, Maryland. Her love for Las Vegas and gambling brought her joy and excitement over the years. She also had a passion for dancing and celebrating life—always ready to enjoy a good party with those around her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles McCarthy; her father, Sterling Hasson; mother, Eleanor Hasson; and her brothers, Willard Hasson Sr. (Nancy Cox Hasson), and Charles Link Hasson.
Mary Lou is survived by her sons, Michael and Timothy (Jen Muscarelli McCarthy). Mary Lou will be lovingly remembered by her nieces Cyndie McMullen (Paul), Eleanor Deal (Tom), Evelyn Hasson; and nephew Willard Hasson (Penny). Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Asbury Cemetery in Port Deposit, MD. At 11:00 a.m.
