Maria Emilia Pena, affectionately known by her loved ones as "Mima," & "Mama" passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024, at the age of 95 in Peekskill. she was a beacon of light and love to all who knew her.
Maria's journey began in Puerto Rico where she grew up surrounded by the love of her family. Maria was married to Inocencio known to all as "Mima & Chencho" for 56 years. Her life was a testament to her enduring strength, warmth, and dedication. She was the matriarch of a large and loving family that included eight children and their spouses, 24 grandchildren and their spouses, and 20 great-grandchildren, who all brought her immense joy and pride. She was a cherished sister & dear sister-in-law, and a beloved aunt to nieces and nephews.
Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family and into her community through fostering children and caring for neighbors. Maria dedicated many years of her life to caring for the priests at rectories, a role she performed with grace and devotion. Her commitment to service and her ability to touch the lives of those around her was a hallmark of her character.
Maria's talents shone brightly in her love for sewing and gardening. She found great pleasure in sewing clothes for her children, a craft that not only showcased her skill but also her desire to provide for her family with love. Her gardens were a reflection of her soul, full of life and color, and they served as a sanctuary where she could express her creativity and connect with the beauty of nature.
Her passing leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and the joy of a life well-lived. Maria's spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched, guiding and inspiring them just as she did throughout her remarkable life. Her laughter, wisdom, and the stories she shared will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
