Kim Avis Payne, 61 of New Bedford passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, December 31st, 2024. Born and raised in New Bedford, she was the daughter of the late Barbara (Nelson) Roderiques & Robert Magnett. She lived in New Bedford most of her life. With the exception of her time in the Navy, where she was stationed in the Philippines. She was a Petty Officer Third Class Radioman. This is also where she began her journey of motherhood.
Kim was a true light in others lives. She would always put others before herself, even if she knew she would be left with less, but she would never show or let you know that. She would listen to your cries, even when it broke her heart to see your tears. Kim absolutely loved to be silly, and for others to be silly with her. Her silliness was as infectious as her laugh. She knew how to make you laugh, even if she was making fun of you, you couldn't help but to laugh along with her. She loved to eat and if you knew her, she was washing that meal down with a cold Pepsi (don't forget with ice). She was a natural beauty with radiating skin and an even brighter smile to match. As bright as her smile was and as loud as she was, her want to live life was brighter and louder than she could ever express with words.
Kim was a fighter. From being diagnosed with Crohn's Disease at 25, she fought her entire life to not let this condition get the best of her. Instead, she spent her time laughing with her beloved daughter, granddaughters & her beautiful family of sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews that her mother and aunt created together. And also inviting the friends they all grew up together in on the love that she had in her heart to share.
Kim took pride and immense joy in being a Mumma to her two children. As well as being a Nana and Great-Nana. She taught them how to love and share and care for others. As small as she looked she would fight the world for her family, friends, and everyone she loved and came in contact with.
Kim was the type of person you can connect with about anything. She was faithful to her Father and listened to his words consistently. She was proud of being God's Child and sharing his words to those around her.
Survivors include her daughter (Lova), Kayla Perez of New Bedford; her granddaughters Zaylaney Payne & Tamia Payne; her great-granddaughter Zalenah and her expecting great-grandson; her Siblings, Robyn Nelson, Evelyn Nelson and spouse Brian Houser, Stacey Nelson, Dwayne Nelson, and Tara Roderiques; her aunt Florence Tavares & her cousins who she also looked at as siblings Antone & Lynne Tavares. She had many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. As well as her lifelong friends Darlene Andrade, Domingo Perez, and her beloved Yorkie, Muffin Top"
She is predeceased by her loving son William "Booda" Payne Jr.
Her visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025, from 4-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St.
