"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
Kelzo E. Martin Jr. or "Buck" as many knew him, 81, of Greencastle, IN, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
Buck dedicated his life to faith, service, and community. He was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran who bravely served his country during the Vietnam War, earning several honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 1960 Device, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the M-14 Rifle Marksmanship Badge. He remained dedicated to his fellow veterans throughout his life as a member of the VFW and American Legion. He was also a member of the Masonic Temple, where he formed lifelong bonds of friendship and service. He was generous with his time, volunteering with organizations such as the Salvation Army, Greencastle Senior Center, and the American Legion Auxiliary. In his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling with his wife, indulging his sweet tooth, and watching his favorite Westerns and soap operas, often while getting some quality sleep in his favorite chair, remote still in hand.
Buck's true calling was ministry. He was devout in his faith and passionately shared his love and knowledge of God's word with all who would listen. A devoted member of Mecca Christian Church, he not only attended faithfully but also stepped up to lead services whenever needed. He used his gift to bring services to those in nursing homes who were unable to attend church and served as Chaplain for the Greencastle Police Department. Even as his health declined, he continued to give sermons to his fellow residents at The Waters of Greencastle whenever he was able.
Buck is survived by his beloved wife, Betty (Klebusch) Martin; her daughters Crystal Green (Dallas Day) and Cindy Treash; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Darrell Martin of Oregon; his daughter, Gina "Candy" Chandler and her two sons of South Carolina; as well as many others, including step-children and grandchildren from previous marriages.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kelzo and Hazel Martin, his son, Chris Martin, and many other loved ones.
Buck's kindness, generosity, and unwavering faith touched the lives of many and will be forever cherished by those who knew him.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to The Greencastle American Legion-Post 58, by check or money order, mailed to 1401 Indianapolis Rd, Greencastle, IN 46135.
