Kathleen "Katy" Duffy Schardt
January 13, 1961 – July 26, 2024
Kathleen Duffy Schardt of Granite Bay, California passed away July 26th, 2024 surrounded by her loving family, after a short battle with an aggressive form of lung cancer.
Katy, daughter of John Patrick Duffy and Joan Morrow Duffy, was born in Charlotte, North Carolina. Katy grew up in Richardson, TX with her two older sisters, Anne and Susie and her younger brother, Michael. She graduated from J.J. Pearce High School before going on to receive an undergraduate degree from Texas Tech University and an MBA in real estate from Southern Methodist University. Shortly after graduating, Katy attended a friend's wedding in northern California. She returned to Texas, packed up her car, and drove west to live in San Francisco. There, she started her professional career with a commercial real estate development company and worked for several real estate developers throughout northern California. She then started her own company, Compass Commercial Group (CCG), in 1996. Over the years, Katy assisted her clients in navigating the complex entitlement process on commercial development projects, while also specializing in obtaining alcohol licenses for clients throughout California. Recently, Katy's eldest son, Jack, worked alongside her at CCG.
Katy met her husband Bob in 1990, and they married in February of 1992. They were blessed with two sons; in 1994, Jack was born on Katy's 33rd birthday, and Michael was born in 1996. There was nothing Katy enjoyed more than being with her family. Jack and Mikey were the greatest accomplishments of her life, and she took great comfort in seeing them become fine young men.
Katy had a deep faith. Throughout her life, she consistently sought and maintained a close connection to God. She lived a rich life and was blessed with many deep friendships. Katy enjoyed hiking, experimenting in the kitchen, entertaining, reading a good book, the arts, learning Spanish, and traveling. Katy kept a map of the world in her office, pinning each location she visited. There is no shortage of pins, but the three places closest to her heart were Perdido Key, Florida, San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she recently purchased a house with her sister, and Texas, where she would often visit her family.
Katy was extremely intelligent, fun loving, beautiful and kind. In her final weeks, Katy's family was astounded and comforted by the outpouring of love from countless dear friends. The impact she had on others was made evident by their constant care and presence. Katy will never be forgotten and will live in our hearts forever.
Katy is survived by her husband Bob Schardt, son Jack Schardt and his wife Katie, son Mikey Schardt and his fiancé Rachel, mother Joan Duffy, sisters Anne VanBeber and Susie Buehler, brother Michael Duffy, and fourteen nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her father, Patrick Duffy.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Friday, August 30, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Marello Catholic Church in Granite Bay followed by a celebration of life at the Hidden Valley club house, Granite Bay.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katy's honor to Compassion International at www.compassion.com/catalog

We first met Katy in St. Mary´s Catholic Church in Walnut Creek, CA. She was the beautiful bride of Bob Schardt, a former Las Lomas student, swimmer and friend. It was easy to see how much they loved each other. Her sense of humor shined even as the priest mispronounced their name, introducing them as Mr. and Mrs. Robert "Schwartz." Our prayers to her family, especially Bob, Jack and Mike as they grieve her loss and remember her wondrous life. Much love, Tom and Judy Ehrhorn
