Joseph Earl Guillory, Sr. was born January 29, 1947, in Church Point, LA to the parents of Welton Joseph and Marjorie Cravens Guillory. Joseph Earl Guillory was affectionately known as "Brother." He got his nickname because his baby brother, David, could not pronounce Joseph, so he just called him "Brother," and that nickname stuck, and everyone in the Car shop and beyond knew Joseph as "Brother."
Joseph took his role as the eldest very seriously. He loved the fact that he was the big, strong, big brother who would come to the honor and defense of his siblings in whatever situation they were in. There was always a story or two of how he had to beat somebody up for his sister or step in to defend his younger brothers. Not only was he very protective of his siblings, but also of his cousins.
Joseph was married to Gwendolyn Jacobs for ten years and was a faithful member of St. Henry Catholic Church.
He worked as a plumber in the family business, Guillory Plumbing and Heating for over 30 years and loved his work. Joseph enjoyed family get-togethers, telling stories to his family, and big plates of Creole food. He was proud of his Louisiana heritage and southern roots. In fact, he'd speak a little Creole to his children and grandchildren, hoping they would pick up on some of it. Joseph was a simple man who didn't do much traveling in his life, but he was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone in need. He didn't have to know them, family members, or strangers; he was just happy to help. Joseph was best known for his stories; the funniest thing was the fact that he was the "hero" in ALL his stories, and he made sure you knew it! Now, if you asked someone else about that particular story, it might be a little different than his version because, of course, he was the hero.
Cherishing the memories of Joseph are his brothers and sisters, Joyce Lefrere, Gerald Guillory (Pat), Michael Guillory, and David Guillory (Yolanda). His children, Janaerio Jacobs-Smith (Fernando), Joey Guillory (Dimitri), Jasmine Guillory, Mary McPherson (Matthew), and Joseph Guillory, Jr. Eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Welton and Marjorie Guillory; sister-in-law, Henreitta Guillory, and brother-in-law, Ronald Lefrere.
