John M. Stover, Sr., 79, of Mill Hall, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at Lock Haven Rehabilitation and Senior Living. Born on November 21, 1944, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Paul and Elizabeth (Weaver) Stover. On August 22, 1964, in Rebersburg, he married his beloved wife, Betty Ruth Brungart, who survives at home.
John attended school in Bellefonte. He was a member of the Pennsylvania National Guard, and worked as a truck driver until his retirement in 2001.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by their five children, John M. Stover, Jr. (Rachele), Scott Stover (Bethany), Timothy Stover (Theresa), Andrew Stover (Sherrie), and Ernest Stover (Tracy), 13 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren. Also surviving are three siblings, Judy Schattschneider, Steve Stover (Pat), and Sharon Homan (Lynn), three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was predeceased by four brothers, two sisters, and his stepmother.
John was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bellefonte and attended the First Baptist Church in Lock Haven. He loved our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and looked forward to worship services and fellowship at church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren. More than anything, he loved his family and leaves behind countless memories that his loved ones will forever hold in their hearts.
Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church of Lock Haven, 210 N. Vesper Street, Lock Haven, with Pastor Doug Packard officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Wetzler Funeral Service, Inc. in Bellefonte.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of John to the First Baptist Church of Lock Haven, 210 N. Vesper Street, Lock Haven, PA 17745.

I had the privilege of being one of the first grandsons of Paul and Mary Stover and I spent all of my childhood with my Dad and my Uncle John and their brothers doing all sorts of things hunting and fishing and I remember Uncle John was never short on answers in a complicated situation as was the case one afternoon along the Grugan Hollow road when John and two of his brothers decided to test out his new international scouts (yellow it was) off road capability by running up a gas line and of course it got stuck. While the brothers were fretting over what to do, John reminded them he had a come along in the back! And a chain! And the three of them managed to tie off to a tree and pull it out. Back then the Pennsylvania wilds was their playground and he knew to be ready for anything.
