It is with great sadness that we announce the death of John Franklin Johnson on October 13, 2024, at the age of 95. John was born May 9, 1929, to Duke & Lettie Caroline Johnson and married Gladys Ward in November 1947.
He was a self-employed farmer for many years and had successful careers in home building and the commercial nuclear field.
John was well known for his love of family and friends and was well loved by many, many friends. He never met a stranger and always had a conversation ready to share.
John is survived by his wife of 76 years, Gladys Johnson; children, Rita Rawlings, Peggy and husband, Vone Foley, Deanna and husband, Thomas Smith and Nancy and husband, Dan Johnson; daughter-in-law, Margie Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his oldest child, Ronnie Johnson in 2016 and his son-in-law, Mark Rawlings in 2022.
Serving as pallbearers will be Cole Foley, Luke Foley, Kyle Johnson, Tim Purcell, Patrick Richardson, Michael Jones and Jeff Herman.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at Douglass First Baptist Church with Bro. Randy Arnold officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 1:00pm at Douglass First Baptist Church.
A private graveside service will be held at Douglass Cemetery.
