Joseph Cocco, Jr. (Joey), 73, passed away peacefully at home on April 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Beloved son of the late Joseph Cocco, Sr. and the late Caroline Cocco nee Ciangi. Beloved husband of Janet nee Giacalone, for 44 years, loving father to his three children, Patrice (fiancé Nick Chodzko) Joseph III, and Michael (Alyson), loving Papa to his two granddaughters, Blake and Gemma Cocco, and loving dog papa to Hank and the late Dakota. Loving brother to Phyllis Lapo (Jon), Danny (Kim), Carol Gipson, Anthony (Bonnie), Richard (Tom) and Lena (Guy). Joey was a loving uncle to seven nieces and nephews and to his eight great nieces and great nephews and cousin to many.
Joey had a larger than life personality and always smiled and made you feel so welcomed. He loved summer so he could lay in the sun and work at his asphalt business. He loved his St. Giles family, especially the men's basketball team and going to the men's club meetings. He was the oldest player on the team and finally retired his Bad Company t-shirt after he finally won the championship after playing for over 40 years. One of his proudest moments was winning the first "Joey Cocco" Award at basketball. Even though he was retired, he tried to get to the very first game each year to see who won this award. Joey was so proud to be the 2024 Man of The Year for the St. Giles Men's Club. He loved his red velvet jacket and proudly showed everyone when they visited. He felt very connected to his 6:30 Mass family. We will forever associate the last pew on the left with him. He was a volunteer for SPRED and loved working with the kids.
Joey touched so many lives and will never be forgotten and will always remain in our hearts.
Joey loved spending time with his family and always looked forward to any events that brought everyone together, whether that be holidays, birthdays, weddings, and the monthly pasta parties. Joey always said "family is everything" and he truly was a family man.
Visitation will be held at St Giles Church,1025 Columbian Avenue in Oak Park, Monday, April 7, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. followed by Mass at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside, IL.

My condolences to the Cocco family. I came to know Joey as a White Capper back since 1977. Joey was a great guy and will forever be missed. To Anthony and Danny, I pass along those sentiments as well. He was a special person. The Cocco family should be proud of the family you raised and shared with us all. May God bless Joey and all the Cocco family.

There once was a man from the West side.
Who chose to help people and never hide.
Family is about love and respect.
Joey Cocco did it at his best.
A leader is not just a given title.
One needs to work at it to be an idol.
Angels are not just born in heaven.
It takes alot of work and you must be driven.
Through comfort and pain he remained the same.
With wisdom and humor even in rain.
He is now in heaven startng over again.
To be the leader we say.....Amen
