Joanne Brunson Boysen passed away on April 4, 2024 at Carveth Village in Middleville. She was born April 24, 1933 to Harry and Dorothy (Lee) Brunson in southern Alabama. When she was eleven years old, she, her parents and younger brother, Gene, moved to Michigan, arriving on June 6, 1944 (D-Day of WWII). An early acquaintance was Don Boysen, a classmate from seventh grade through graduation from Plainwell High School, Class of 1950. Joanne then entered the University of Michigan where she earned a BS degree in Dental Hygiene, a profession she practiced in various dental offices until retirement in 2002.
One week after graduation from U of M on June 20, 1954, she and Don Boysen, her friend, classmate and love were married, a union that they celebrated for nearly seventy years. In 1956 they became the owners of the "Sun and News" a weekly newspaper and moved to Middleville.
Joanne was the beloved wife, mother and grandmother of four children, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Their children are Beth Bauer, Chris Boysen (John Nash), Michael Boysen (Rachel) and Martin Boysen (Janine). Surviving are grandchildren Jacob Bauer (Jen), Emily Floyd, Nathan Boysen, Sean Boysen and Cole Boysen; great grandchildren Jackson and Elliot Floyd.
Joanne's love for her family and friends was demonstrated throughout her life. For 30 years she established the tradition of welcoming her family to her home with a home prepared meal every Friday night. She loved and protected her children and grandchildren with a God-given attention of a born mother. Her countless community friends valued her softspoken, caring relationship.
Visitation with the family will be held at the Beeler-Gores Funeral Home, Middleville, on Thursday, April 25 from five to seven p.m. A Celebration of Joanne's life will be held on Friday, April 26 at 11 a.m. at the Middleville United Methodist Church, 111 Church St., Middleville.
Donations in Joanne's memory may be made to The Beacon Society, Friends of the Middleville Area Community Library, #161, c/o TAEF Barry Co. Foundation, 231 S. Broadway, Hastings; and the Middleville United Methodist Church.
