Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gailes Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 1, 2026.
Gwendolyn Marie Brower, age 77, passed away peacefully at her home on January 21, 2026, following an eight-year journey with Alzheimer's disease. Though the illness slowly took pieces of her memory, it never touched the love she gave so freely to her family and everyone who knew her.
Gwendolyn was born on September 26, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to the late Louise Jackson and Charles Diggs. She was raised in Washington, D.C., and spent cherished time traveling to Mississippi with her father and brother, experiences that remained close to her heart.
A hardworking and determined woman, Gwendolyn held many roles throughout her life, working her way from waitress to manager and later serving as the head of dietary staff. No matter the position, she took great pride in her work and expected excellence, not just from herself, but from those around her. If you worked with Gwendolyn, you knew she wanted the job done right.
Faith and family were the cornerstones of her life. She loved attending church and faithfully served as an usher for many years, continuing until her health no longer allowed her to do so. Gwendolyn was a devoted and loving mother to her children, Michael Jackson, Andre Jackson, Jerry Toney, and Laytwuan Brower. Her children were her pride and joy, and she had a remarkable way of making each of them feel equally loved, supported, and valued.
She found special joy in her role as a grandmother to her seven grandchildren and a great-grandmother to her eleven great-grandchildren. Gwendolyn treasured photographs and memories, holding on tightly to moments that mattered most. She always did her best to be present for her children and grandchildren, creating a legacy of love that will continue through generations.
Gwendolyn had a heart of gold. She was always there when someone needed help, comfort, or encouragement. A true family woman, there was never a time when a loved one called on her and she did not show up, steadfast, caring, and dependable.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louise Jackson and Charles Diggs; her beloved husband, Ronald Brower; her youngest son, Jerry Toney; her brothers, Charles, Tyrone, Donald, and Ricky; and her sisters, Denise, Terry, and Peaches.
Gwendolyn Marie Brower will forever be remembered for the love she poured into her family, her strength, her faith, and her unwavering presence in the lives of those she loved. Her memory will live on in every life she touched.
