Jessie Bennett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by K.L. Brown Memory Chapel - Anniston on Jan. 31, 2026.
A Celebration of Life for Mr. Jessie William Bennett, Jr., 81, of Anniston, Alabama, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at K.L. Brown Memory Chapel in Golden Springs, with Dr. Roland Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Bennett passed away Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his family.

Mr. Bennett was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years and 5 months, Barbara Ann Bennett; his parents, Jessie William Bennett, Sr. and Hazel Cargile Bennett; siblings, Vernon Bennett, James Edward Bennett, and Edwa Dean Ferguson; and his nephew, Eugene Bennett.

He is survived by his daughters, Lea Bennett (Cyndi) and Lisa Moussa (Ahmed); grandchildren, Dakota Cochran (Ellie) and Kaylee Cochran; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and his beloved cats, Ramie, Mishu, and Cali.

Mr. Bennett was born in Arkansas and proudly served his country as a Vietnam-era veteran of the United States Army. He met his wife, Barbara, in California, where he worked for General Motors, and together they welcomed their two daughters. In 1977, the family moved to Alabama, where they made their home. After relocating, he began his career at the Anniston Army Depot, retiring in 2010 after 32 years of dedicated service.

He enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and hunting, and could often be found watching all types of sports on television. He also loved word puzzles, westerns, Animal Planet, and reading western novels. A devoted member of his church, he served faithfully as a deacon and Sunday school teacher for more than 30 years.

Above all, he deeply loved his wife, Barbara, and cherished his daughters and grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Michael Bain, Mike Gardner, Ken Boyd, Steve Smith, Philip Harry, and Harmon Cobb.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or the American Lung Association at www.lung.org.

I am sad to learn of Jessie's passing. It was only recently that I made contact with him again after many years. Jessie and Barbara were very good friends with Joyce and me when we all lived in California and went to the same church. We were the "new" couple, having moved there from Illinois. They were the most welcoming people and we considered them best friends. We shared many wonderful times together. At church Joyce played the piano and Barbara sang beautifully on many occasions. Jessie was an encourager to me after Joyce passed. He had gone through that loss of a spouse about a year prior to Joyce's passing. Now they can all have a grand reunion together around God's throne.
