Kelly Erin Smalley (Piper), 41, of Wallingford, passed away on January 21, 2026, in
New Haven, Connecticut. Born on September 9, 1984, also in New Haven, Kelly brought joy and laughter to those around her throughout her life.
A graduate of Lyman Hall High School in Wallingford, Kelly was known for her vibrant personality. Her laughter was contagious-an unmistakable sound that could light up any room. She had a natural gift for making people smile and feel welcome wherever she went.
Kelly found joy in expressing herself through music and movement. She loved to sing and dance with friends, especially to the tunes of Britney Spears and Celine Dion. These moments were more than just fun-they were reflections of her spirited nature and love for life.
She also had a passion for hairstyling and delighted in helping others feel their best through her work. Her creativity and warmth made every interaction memorable. Kelly spent time working at Lenny's Café, where she became a familiar face and a cherished part of the community; making friends become family.
Kelly is survived by her loving husband, Casey Piper of Wallingford; her brother, Stephen D. Smalley Jr., also of Wallingford; her nephew Maddox Smalley; niece Violet Smalley; aunts Denise Benson of Hamden and Dorothy Donarum (John) of Hamden; uncle William Smalley (Martha); aunt Carol Smalley of Oregon; and many loving cousins. She is also survived by her step-children Michael Shea of North Haven, Catherine Shea of Naugatuck, and Christopher Shea of Wallingford. She was also cherished by many dear friends who will miss her deeply and the close-knit group affectionately known as "the Kelly's," who shared countless memories filled with laughter and love.
She was predeceased by her mother, Tara McGuire Smalley, and her father, Stephen D. Smalley Sr., as well as Aunt Carol's late husband Stan.
Kelly's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her-for the laughter she shared so freely, the music she danced to with abandon, and the love she gave without hesitation. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
Kelly's family will receive relative and friends on Monday February 2, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Wallingford Funeral Home 809 N. Main St. Ext., Wallingford.
