There's a bit more laughter in heaven today.
Jim Yaw, known for his deep faith and quick wit, died on February 26, 2025.
Jim was born August 28, 1936, and was the youngest of four children to William and Madeline Yaw of Bloomfield Hills. He met the love of his life, Nancy Lemke, as a teenager. They were married September 12, 1959, and were inseparable until her death in 2014.
Jim and Nancy made a mark on the local and national art scene, owning the Yaw Gallery in Birmingham, Michigan, for 47 years. The gallery originally sold the works of contemporary artists like Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro. Later, the gallery helped launch the careers of such renowned creators as Dale Chilhooly, Richard Devore, and Gary Knodel. Jim was regarded as a talented and sought after picture framer.
Jim and Nancy were co-founders of Kensington Academy, which is now a part of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Bloomfield Hills. All four of their children attended school there.
Jim and Nancy leave behind their beloved children, Tom (Julie), Christopher (Katie), Larry (Kelly), and Jennifer (Michael) Xenos. They are also survived by their cherished grandchildren, Alexandra, Charlotte, James, Jack, Catherine, Sarah, Madeleine, and Emily.
Jim was a man of strong faith and optimism. He was a devout Catholic known for his generosity and high moral values.
He enjoyed Formula One racing, good sermons, religious books, and always had a place in his heart and on his lap, for cats.
Well-wishers are invited to celebrate his life at a Requiem Funeral Mass at 10am on Saturday, March 15, at the chapel at the Academy of the Sacred Heart, 1250 Kensington Road, Bloomfield Hills. Visitation will precede the service at 9am in the parlor.
Memorial donations in his honor can be made to Manresa Retreat Center in Bloomfield Hills.
