James McGinty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cremation Society of Kansas & Missouri - Prairie Village on Jan. 29, 2026.
James Joseph Patrick McGinty, Jim, passed away at home on Thursday, October 23, in Kansas City, Missouri, where he had been under the care of family and hospice. Born on August 20, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jim lived a life defined by dedication to his family, his profession, and his community.

Born and raised in Indiana, Jim attended Sacred Heart Elementary and High School in Indianapolis before going on to earn a bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from Butler University. In 1965, he was awarded a doctorate in Pharmacy from the state of Indiana, which launched a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical industry. He devoted over thirty years to Eli Lilly and Company, where his knowledge and commitment left a lasting impression on colleagues and the broader field.

From 1966 to 1972, Jim served as a medic in the Army National Guard. His service reflected a deep sense of responsibility and compassion, qualities that remained central throughout his life.

Jim was known for his outgoing personality and boundless energy. Whether at work or among friends and family, he brought joy and connection to every gathering. He had an innate ability to make others feel welcome and valued. His love for tabletop games, fishing, sports, and music brought joy not only to himself but also to those fortunate enough to share those moments with him.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Carolyn; his daughter, Mary Kay, her husband, Jon Rollins, and his granddaughter, Violet. He also leaves behind his sister, Johanne, her husband, Mike Miller, their son, Mike Jr., his wife, Kathy, and their children. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mildred McGinty.

Jim's warmth and spirit touched many lives. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
