Elkhart, IN James E. Chaney, 89, passed away after a brief illness at Elkhart General Hospital on January 24, 2025. Born to the late Clay and Mildred J. (Nuckolls) Chaney, December 2nd, 1935, in Dell, AR.
Also preceded in death by a son, James Wayne Chaney, a grandson Matthew Schweisberger, brothers Leroy Chaney, Tom Chaney, William Chaney, Larry Chaney; nephews Scott Chaney, Wyatt Chaney; a son-in-law, Tim Bradley and two sisters, Anne Ragland, Jeanette Lossee.
James was raised in Arkansas. He was a retiree of Mogul Rubber in Goshen. He was a member of the Goshen Eagles and Goshen Moose clubs. Lifetime member of the DAV Auxiliary in Goshen. Loved to camp and canoeing and bowling and enjoy hanging out with friends and family.
James never knew a stranger and was always willing to help out and was also known for his Big Bear hugs. He loved his ham and beans, fried potatoes and cornbread.
James is survived by his companion of many years, Ruth Neff, a son, Jim (Lisa) Chaney of Buchanan, MI. Four daughters, Donna Tracy of Perryville, AR. Cheryl Bradley of Warsaw, Jody. (Lee) Maxwell of Elkhart. Vicky (Jimmy) Jones of Elkhart, 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, three sisters; Geraldine Greathouse of Swansea, IL, Sue (Jesse) Hollis of Goshen, Carla Borzentow of Goshen, two sister in laws; Dorie Chaney of Utah, Brenda Chaney of Goshen, a brother-in-law Larry Lossee and numerous nieces and nephews that he thought the world of.
The family will receive friends on Monday, February 3, 2025. From 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, IN.
The funeral service will be On Monday, February 3, 2025. At 4:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, IN with Brother Danny Coombs officiating.
