Louise Jane Wantland, age 94, of Mount Vernon passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, at the Laurels of Mount Vernon. She was born on May 29, 1931, to the late Leon and Stella (Piper) Smith.

Jane worked many years in a variety of positions at Rudin's, Louise Vincent's dress shop, Merits Shoe Store, Rendezvous Restaurant, Perkins Pancake House, Dogwood Inn, and the gas company. She loved making crafts, sharing recipes, clipping coupons, and spending time with her family. Jane enjoyed attending square dances when Yogi's Rangers played. She was a lover of Charlie Pride and even had a black cat she named Charlie Girl.

She is survived by her daughter Diana Sunkle of Mount Vernon, grandchildren Shirley Weaver, Sharla Pullins, Chris Scott, Steven Scott, Robert Sunkle Jr., and Gary Sunkle, eleven great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, along with her brother, Paul (Mary Jane) Smith of Mount Vernon and sister, Juanita Sue Taylor of San Antonio, TX, and good long-time friend, Sharon Wilson.

In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in her death by her husband Everett Wantland, daughters Karen Scott and Shirley Foreman, son Everett Wantland Jr., grandson Gordon Scott Jr., granddaughter Debra K. (Sunkle) Clark, great-granddaughter Amanda Jo, two great-great grandsons Aidyn and Micah, sisters Hattie Foreman, Nellie Baker, Esther Sesser, and an infant sister, and brothers Glenn Smith, Tom Smith, and an infant brother.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, beginning at 12 noon at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High Street, Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where friends may call from 11 am until the time of service. Burial will follow in St. John Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Pastor Josh Brady will be officiating.

Memorial contributions in Jane's name may be made to the charity of one's choice.
