Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott's Chapel Hill Mortuary - Dothan on Mar. 5, 2025.
Henry Hamilton, Jr., affectionately known as "Pig," was a beacon of joy and laughter in the lives of all who knew him. Born on March 17, 1947, in Abbeville, Alabama, he was the firstborn son of the late Henry Hamilton Sr. and Ruth C. Hamilton. Henry's journey on this earth came to a peaceful end on March 2, 2025, in Montgomery, Alabama.
From his early years, Henry was a spirited soul who embraced life with enthusiasm and grace. He accepted Christ at a young age and became a devoted member of Mary Magdalene Baptist Church, where his faith flourished. Henry's educational journey took him through the halls of Abbeville Jr High School and Henry County Training School, where he forged lifelong friendships and laid the foundation for his future. After graduation, Henry's path led him to serve his country in the Vietnam War. His time in the army was marked by bravery and honor, and upon his return, he was celebrated with an honorable discharge. With a heart full of dreams, Henry attended Alabama State University, furthering his education and preparing for the next chapter of his life.
Henry's professional career began at Fort Rucker with the DOC maintenance company, where he dedicated many years of service. However, it was outside the confines of work where Henry's passions truly shone. An avid outdoorsman, he found solace in the simple pleasures of cooking, fishing, hunting, and painting. His love for the outdoors was only matched by his love for people. Henry's infectious humor and his favorite sayings, "That's what's up!" and "You know what to do!" became mantras for those around him.
Henry's legacy is one of love, laughter, and gentleness. He was a man who cherished every moment, always carrying a positive outlook on life. His presence was a gift to those who had the pleasure of sharing in his laughter and joy.
He was preceded in death by his fiancée, Mary "Tine" Hill. Left to honor Henry's memory are his brother, Harold (Annette) Hamilton; his sister, Maggie Bulger; his daughters, Kimberly (Jerome) Carter and Laverne Hill; and his daughter-in-love, Lakecia Hill. Henry's legacy also lives on through his grandchildren, Lashonda (Milton) Brown, Shaniya Singletary, Shamiya Singletary, Diedre (Courtney) Hill, and Tavoris Hill; his great-grandchildren, Monae, Jaylen, Antonio, Promise, Kennedy, Hayden, Ziah, Jae'yonnie, Trenton, and Gavin; his niece, Toni Bulger and Christen Hamilton; his nephew, David (Cynthia) Cochran; his great-niece, Jada Cochran; and a host of special friends and family members who were touched by his vibrant spirit.
