Greg White, 68, of Austin, passed away peacefully on February 25th, 2025, with his loving wife of 47 years by his side.
Greg was born in St. Louis, Missouri on June 22, 1956, to Donald and Edith White. He graduated from Nathan Hale High School in 1973, and then moved to Fort Worth, Texas. During his first days as a Texan, he met the love of his life, Dawn, while walking their dogs in the morning, Charlie and Max, in the neighborhood. Their friendship became life-long. The day after she graduated high school, she married Greg at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Fort Worth. Together, they had three wonderful children whom they raised with love. Their inspiring and beautiful love story lasted forty-seven and a half years on Earth, but eternal in spirit.
Greg had a passion for life that will live strong in his legacy. His family was his pride and joy and everything that mattered. Greg role-modeled what "all in" with your family looks like. He never missed a moment that mattered, and he made a point to tell you how much you meant to him every day. He was competitive in life and always had an edge, which helped him both in his career as a grocery store manager and afterwards in his retirement job as a baseball umpire, where he received recognition for being the Umpire of the Year in Texas. Greg had a great sense of humor, always had a joke or a story to tell, and brought joy and laughter into every room he entered.
He bravely fought several health battles in the last few years.
While he loved his life, his job as the leader of our family was the most important. His biggest life blessings call him Papa, his most cherished title and yet another area in which he truly excelled. One of his favorite adventures was bringing his grandkids on many family experiences where the most beautiful memories were made. Papa was a regular at Great Wolf Lodge with his grandchildren when they were small and most recently, with his beautiful Great-Grandkids just a month ago. He enjoyed dinners with his son and a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the Kentucky Derby, sporting events with his daughter (especially if one of the teams was wearing burnt orange), Watching his favorite number 10 play travel ball around the US, weekly lunches with his Best Bud, making plans with Kaylee to hang out at Papa's house, Horse racing with his Grandson, big family holidays and traditions with everyone, casino trips and a fairly regular Bingo trip in which he was upset if the "Papa number" 22 wasn't on his card. He wholeheartedly loved his wife, Dawn, who was always his right hand and best friend. There is no moment we remember where he didn't put her first. Greg was intentional with his time and prioritized his family. Every single person in his life feels like the most special and most important because THAT is the person he is.
Greg is survived by his loving wife, Dawn; their children, Heather and her husband, Adam; Angela and her husband, Josh; Greg and his Partners, Ken and the 12th man, Robby. His brothers Don and wife Janet and Bruce White, Grandchildren Isaiah, Logan and his fiancé Destiny, Troy and his fiancé Elyssa, Madelyn, Peyton and Kaylee, his best puppy Pal Penelope, and two Great-Grandchildren, Avery and Landon, who already knew that Papa Greg hung the moon.
Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Edith, as well as sisters Beth and Jan.
Our Angel here on Earth has earned the ultimate reward, gained his angel wings, and is now flying high and in peace.
Joshua 1:9 Be strong and Courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD, your God, is with you wherever you may go.

There will be a small family gathering after the service at Greg Jr's house at 2312 Wheaton Trail, Cedar Park, TX 78613
