In Loving Memory of Gary William Weicks

A Tribute to a Life Well-Lived

On a quiet, tranquil Tuesday morning, Gary William Weicks moved peacefully from this world to the next, surrounded by his loving family. Gary passed away February 4, 2025, after a courageous fight with early onset dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. 

Gary was born on December 24, 1952, in New Orleans La., a son of Frank Weicks and Elizabeth (Schulz) Weicks. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Gary was a man of unwavering dedication, not only to his family but also to his community and country as well. He was a manager in the SOI division of the IRS in Ogden, UT, and retired after 35 years of service. Gary joined the Navy ROTC while attending St Aloysius High School in New Orleans. When his 100-year-old, Catholic high school closed its doors, he attended Kennedy High School where he graduated in 1970. He attended the University of New Orleans. Gary continued serving his country by enlisting in the Air Force Reserves during the Vietnam Era. 

Gary's greatest joy in life was his family. He met his high school sweetheart, Christine, and they immediately fell in love. They were married as soon as she graduated from high school and would have celebrated their 53rd anniversary this July. Together they became the parents of Kimberly Weicks, West Haven, and Brandon (Katherine Colvin) Weicks of Ogden. Gary's presence was a source of strength and comfort to his family. The love and memories they shared will continue to be a fount of comfort and inspiration.

Long rides were a cherished tradition for Gary, especially when his brother and sister came to visit him. They would spend hours driving through canyons, listening to Oldies music and reliving happy memories. These rides often included hamburger lunches and making lasting memories of their time together. 

Gary had a deep interest in history and research, writing, camping in the mountains, and exploring the outdoors. He was always searching for relics and information to support his projects and presentations. He wrote numerous historical and informational books and was made an honorary member of the Ute tribe for his research on their history.

Gary was a member of the Utah Historical Society, Trails West Artifacts Society of Ogden, and the Coin Club of Salt Lake City. He volunteered with the US Forest Service and participated in numerous digs, exploring for artifacts in the Unitas and other locations. A visit to Gary’s home would find him hunched over a stack of books researching his next project.

Gary is survived by his wife of 52 years, Christine (Eilander) Weicks, his children, four grandchildren, as well as his brothers, Frank and Rebecca (Lomax) Weicks, of North Carolina, Christopher and Jeanie (VanMeeteren) Weicks of Plain City, Utah, and sister, Mary (Weicks) and Danny Jordan of Bowie, Maryland. He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Patrick Michael Weicks. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, the 13th of February 2025 at 11a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 S, Roy, Utah. The family will greet friends and family, at the mortuary on Wednesday evening February 12th from 6-8 pm.

The family would like to thank his doctors, Bristol Hospice, family members, and all those who assisted in his care. If Gary could, he would say how thankful he was for his wife, Christine, who spent countless hours, days, and years, providing him with excellent care as he traveled down this thorny road. 

Rest in peace, Gary. You will be dearly missed, but your legacy will live on through the love and kindness you so generously and quietly shared with others.
