Frederick H. Washington, age 96, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts passed away on January 18, 2025, after a short illness. Fred was born on October 11, 1928, in Hartford, Connecticut, to the late William and Esther Washington. Fred was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

Fred grew up in Connecticut, where he worked at local farms. He joined the army in 1948 . While stationed in Vienna, Austria after WW II, he met and married the love of his life, Dorith Novak. They were married on July 12, 1952. Their enduring love story continued until his wife's passing two months ago on November 11th. Now their love story continues as they are reunited again.

Fred served in the army for 17 years both in the peace efforts after WW II and in the Korean War. While in the army, Fred got stationed at Fort Devens in Massachusetts and in 1959, Fred, his wife and their two young children moved into their family home in Fitchburg. Later he worked as a roaming dispatcher and truck driver for Digital Equipment Corporation for 20 years before retiring.

Outside of work and especially after retirement, Fred had a love for gardening and his yard. Fred ,alongside his wife, worked hard in their beautiful, park-like yard and gardens. He was very proud of the well-maintened ,meandering paths and blooming flowers in his yard. He loved to bowl and was on a bowling league, bowling every Thursday for many years. He was an avid baseball card collector, attending many card shows often with his grandson. He was a dedicated Red Sox, Celtics and Miami Dolphins fan, listening to and watching many games on the radio and TV.

He was also an active member of the Fitchburg Senior Center, where he enjoyed playing pool, Bingo and attending lunches and events with his wife. Fred and his wife ,Dorith, enjoyed many trips to Indian Head Resort, The Inn at East Hill Farm, to Cape Cod and to Old Orchard Beach. They enjoyed dancing waltzes and polkas, walking on the beach together and taking daily walks with their treasured dog, Heidi.

Yet, what mattered most to Frederick was his beloved wife, his treasured dog, and his family, who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the Care Central Hospice program for the exceptional care and support provided during Frederick's final months.
