Forrest William Thomas Jr., 61, of Black River, NY, passed away on February 17, 2025, at Samaritan Medical Center. He was born on February 25, 1963, in Paris, France, the son of Forrest William Thomas Sr. and Mary Dobransky
Forrest attended Carthage Central High School before serving in the Army National Guard for several years. He later worked in construction with his brother-in-law, Robert Decker, and held various jobs throughout his career, including as a mechanic at Champion Sand & Gravel. He also worked for the Department of Public Works in Carthage, at White Pine Golf Course in Felts Mills Cemetery, and as a cook on Fort Drum.
Forrest loved riding motorcycles, collecting knives, and fishing.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Melissa A. Thomas of Black River, NY; his son, Forrest W. Thomas III of Chaumont, NY; two stepsons, Joshua (Chenoa) Woodruff of Watertown, NY, and Jesse Woodruff of Florida; six grandchildren: Madilyn, Zaydin, Camden, Brendyn, Reighla, snd Isaiah; his brother and sister in law, Mark (Kathy) Thomas of Natural Bridge, NY; two sisters and their husbands, Karen (Tim) of Pitcairn, New York and Jeanette (John) Cronce of Tennessee; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Jacob Thomas, and his parents.
Arrangements are with Bruce Funeral Home in Black River. The family will hold a celebration of life at the Black River American Legion March 1st from 1pm to 4pm. A spring burial will take place at Black River Cemetery.
Flowers for the Celebration of Life can be delivered directly to the Black River Legion.
