With deep sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Donald "Don" Eugene Young, Jr., who left us far too soon on February 17, 2025, at the age of 61. Don was born on January 22, 1964, in South Bend, Indiana, to Donald E. Young, Sr. and June Evelyn Marie McCrum (Collins). From the very beginning, Don's presence was larger than life. He had a heart as big as his stature, and his impact on everyone he encountered was immeasurable.
Don was a man of many passions. A self-taught mechanic and gifted craftsman, he was known for his love of working on cars, particularly Corvettes, and his deep admiration for motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons. The sound of a roaring engine was music to his ears, and his skills in the garage were unparalleled. There was no machine too complicated for Don; if something broke, he was the first person everyone turned to for a fix.
His ingenuity and creativity extended beyond mechanics. Whether he was building something from scratch or coming up with clever solutions to everyday problems, Don's craftsmanship was evident in everything he did. He had a sharp mind and an even sharper wit, and his boundless curiosity led him to explore and learn new things every day.
Don was also a man of humor and charisma. His silver tongue and quick wit made him a master of conversation. He had a way of making everyone laugh, often imitating animals and other characters, leaving his friends and family in stitches. His sense of humor was contagious, and it's said that being around him was always an adventure. He had a way of lightening the mood in any room, and his laughter was one of his most defining qualities.
Known for his love of fun, Don's energy was unmatched. He never sat still for long, whether it was working on a new project, boating with friends, or planning his next big trip. He was an avid traveler who particularly enjoyed visits to Mexico, where he made many unforgettable memories with family and friends. Don's zest for life, his playful spirit, and his adventurous soul made him the life of every party, every gathering, and every family get-together.
Above all, Don's greatest love was his family. He was deeply devoted to his loved ones - his parents, siblings, children, and extended family - and would do anything for them. His care and loyalty knew no bounds. Don was a rock for his family, always ready to lend a helping hand, offer a word of encouragement, or just be there when needed. His unwavering support and love for his family were truly special, and his bond with them was unbreakable.
Don's friends knew him as a man who would drop everything to help others. If you were in need, Don was the first to show up, no questions asked. He was always there for those he cared about, with a warm smile and an open heart. His generosity, kindness, and willingness to go the extra mile for others were qualities that earned him the admiration and affection of all who knew him.
Whether on his motorcycle, working on a car, or spending time with his loved ones, Don was always surrounded by those he cherished. He had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel special, to make them laugh, and to make them feel seen and heard. His presence filled a room, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Don's legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his kindness. He leaves behind a lasting imprint on this world, one that will never be forgotten. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, his spirit will forever remain in the stories we tell, the memories we share, and the love we continue to give.
Rest in peace, Don. You were truly one of a kind. Your laughter, love, and the joy you brought to our lives will never fade. We will carry your memory in our hearts forever.
