Donald D. Fromong, 80, passed peacefully January 12, 2022, at Hospice House, with his family by his side. He was born July 17, 1941, in Dodge City, to August Milton and Beulah Fern (Bruntzel) Fromong.
Donald graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1959. He served in the Kansas Air National Guard from 1960 to 1966. Donald retired after 35 years of service from BNSF Railroad as a conductor/brakeman. He was a member of the "Radicals Rod & Custom Club", and loved to rebuild Street Rods. In addition, Donald was a member for over 50 years of Hutchinson-Reno Masonic Lodge #124 A.F. & A.M., Midian Shrine, and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Free Mason. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed golfing at Prairie Dunes with his buddies.
On February 5, 1979, he married Diana Lee Galloway, in Miami, OK.
Donald is survived by: his loving wife of almost 43 years, Diana Fromong; daughter, Angela Herbel (Jerry E. Jr.); son, Donald Fromong, Jr.; grandsons, Christopher Herbel, Jason Herbel, Stephan Herbel (Meghan), and Kolby Fromong; great-granddaughter, Ava Fromong; and mother-in-law, Betty I. Galloway.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 17, 2022, at Larned Cemetery, with Jarred Smith officiating. Masonic honors and military honors, conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard, will be provided at the cemetery. Friends may call from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
