It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of [Clifton], a cherished member of our community, who left us on Friday, February 28th. Clifton was born on July 8, 1930, and his journey through life touched the hearts of many.
A Life Well-Lived
Clifton was known for His unwavering dedication to His family, friends, and community. Born and raised in Oxford, Mississippi to the union of Cliff and Ruth (Williams) Woods exemplified the values of hard work, compassion, and integrity from an early age. Both parents proceeded him in death, along with a brother Stanley Woods and sisters Annie Bernice Woods-McEwen, Johnnie Mae Woods-Carr and Lula Mae Woods-Ladmirault.
Family and Friends
Family was at the center of Clifton's life. He was a loving Father to Elfreda Pace-Woods who also proceeded him in death. Celebrating his home going is brothers William (Vickie) Woods of Chicago, Il., Percy (Alasha) Woods of Las Vegas, Nevada, Samuel (Betty)Woods of Winterville, Ohio and sisters, Bobby Woods (Buffalo, NY) of South Bend, In., Ruthie Woods (OC) Caston of Chicago, Il. and Bettie Woods-Starling of South Bend, In., Sister-in-law Mamie Woods of Memphis, Tn. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends
When I am gone, I don't want a big fanfare; but I do want to be remembered as a giving-kindhearted person. It gives us great pleasure to share the life of Clifton Woods Jr known as Jr., Dirty Red, Uncle Grumpy and Red. He served our country in the United States Army; with an honorable discharge in 1953. He then moved to Chicago, Il. to work along side his uncles at Vienna Manufacturing and Distribution Facility. He invested his time and money in a family owned establishment, The Bird Cage on the westside of Chicago for many years. After retirement from Vienna after 30+ years Clifton moved to South Bend, In.
A Lasting Legacy
In Dirty Red's free time, he enjoyed landscaping his property, he was well known throughout the city for his immaculate lawn; but he was also known for his recycling and re-purposing of EVERYTHING!! He loved his visits to Al's barbershop where he could hang out with Al and the fellas.
The family would be amiss if we did not mention and thank Red's caregivers who was there with him to the end; Bettie Woods-Starling, sister; Myra McEwen, niece; Bobby Woods, sister; Doris Gilmore, niece; Kenneth Woods-Adams, nephew; Stephen Gilmore, great nephew; along with Alcare and Hospice.
Clifton's legacy is one of kindness, generosity, and unwavering devotion to his family and those he held dear. Red will be remembered for his warm smile, sharp tongue, language and the countless ways he enriched the lives of others. Dirty Red's memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Condolences to the family of Red. He was a great caring man who came from a family that was the same. He will be missed but his generosity will never be forgotten.
May he rest in peace.
