HENDERSON-Charles Norman Edwards, 84, a resident of the Gillburg Community died Friday, January 3, 2025 in a local nursing home. Born in Vance County on February 22, 1940, he was the son of the late Norman W. Edwards and Estelle Stokes Edwards.
He graduated from the old Zeb Vance High School in 1958, retired from Roses Stores, Inc, where he was employed as an Inventory Specialist, and was a member of First Baptist Church. Charles served in the North Carolina National Guard. He loved gardening and was known for his delicious peaches, strawberries, and beautiful flowers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at 3:00 PM in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Ronald S. Cava. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
He is survived by his sister, Martha E. Hedgepeth of Kittrell; two nieces, Susan Creech (R.C.) of Kittrell and Elizabeth Edwards of Raleigh; a nephew, Norman Edwards of Zebulon; a great niece, Lana Creech; a great nephew, Hunter Creech (Hailey); a great-great nephew Grayson Creech; and his sister-in-law, Lou Ellen Edwards of Henderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lewis Howard Edwards; his brother-in-law, Andrew Clyde Hedgepeth; and a nephew, Andrew Edward "Ed" Hedgepeth.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Tuesday from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at J. M. White Funeral Home.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice.
