Cecilienne "Liane" (Bouchard) Christie was born in 1942 in Normandin, Quebec, Canada and died on October 31, 2024 at home in Millis, MA surrounded by loved ones at the age of 82.
Liane grew up on a dairy farm with her parents Charles Henri Bouchard and Antoinette (Leveque) Bouchard and her four brothers (Jean-Marie, Benoit, Bernard and Gilbert) and two sisters (Noella and Lisette). Liane was the 6th child born to Charles and Antoinette. During her adolescent years she attended a catholic boarding school with her two sisters. At the age of seventeen she became an exchange student coming to the United States not speaking a word of English. Her host family lived in Scituate, MA where she attended Scituate High School, graduating in 1961. While in Scituate she met Ramon Jerome (Jerry) Christie, the love of her life. After high school she attended Aquinas Junior College and lived with a host family in Dedham, MA. After college she began working at BayBank in Dedham, MA as a bank teller. In September of 1965, Liane and Jerry were married in her hometown of Normandin, Canada residing in Walpole, MA after their wedding.
In 1968, Liane and Jerry purchased their home in Millis, MA where they raised their three children. Liane and Jerry would make numerous trips to visit family in Canada each year, spending two weeks during the summer and one week between Christmas and New Years. Family was of utmost importance to Liane.
Liane worked part time as a cashier at Fernandez, a grocery store in Medway, MA while her children were young. Fernandez was bought by Super Place where she continued to work as a cashier and then transferred to the Medfield store and was promoted to Front End Manager and later promoted to Cash Officer Manager. Liane left Super Place in 1987 and was hired by Roche Bros to be a Cash Officer Manager. Liane worked at many of the Roche Bros and Sudbury Farm grocery stores in the area helping to open new stores and balancing stores that were struggling. Liane took pride in balancing a store each week to the penny! Liane retired from Roche Bros in 2008.
Liane was adventurous and enjoyed traveling to places like Hawaii, California, Las Vegas, Arizona, houseboating on Lake Powell, summer vacations with the grandkids at Old Orchard Beach in Maine, Disney World Florida with all the grandkids, Mexico, Paris, London, Italy, Spain, Greece, Austria, cruising all over the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.
Liane enjoyed listening to classical music because it made her feel happy, but her favorites were Johnny Mathis, Elvis Presley, Kenny Rogers, Rod Stewart and Carly Simon. Liane was an excellent cook and her eggplant parmesan would disappear as soon as it was served. Liane was a devout catholic, CCD Teacher and a parishioner at St. Thomas the Apostles in Millis. Liane would spend time each morning saying her prayers and praying for those she loved and those that needed some extra support. Her constant companion after Jerry's passing was her little dog Gizmo, a clown by nature and the greeter to everyone that visited her. Liane enjoyed playing sudoku, Keno and lottery tickets. She was also an avid Patriots fan. Liane had a great sense of humor, loved to tease and was quick witted. She had the energy like the Energizer Bunny. When you needed help or guidance, she was a faithful listener and would pray for you to find help and resolution. Liane was affectionately called Nanny by many who loved her and will be missed by all that knew her.
Liane was the wife of the late Jerry Christie for 44 years. She was the loving mother to Janice Costa and son-in-law Chuck Costa of Millis, MA, Stephen Christie and daughter-in-law Liz of Dedham, MA, Kevin Christie and daughter-in-law Robin of Millis, MA. Her biggest joy however were her grandchildren; Zachary, Jacob, Lauren, Jason, Brianna, Colin and gained by marriage; Alex and Sam Frankel. She was predeceased by Bernard Bouchard, Benoit and sister-in-law Lucille Bouchard, brother-in-laws Claude Rochette, Roger Belanger, Joel Christie, Jim Christie and sister-in-laws Mary Christie, Peggy Walkuski and Cecile Bouchard, nieces Kathleen Christie, Carolyn Christie and nephew Raymond Walkuski. She is survived by brother Jean-Marie and sister-in-law Liz Bouchard, brother Gilbert Bouchard and sisters Noella Rochette and Lisette Belanger and sister-in-law Connie Christie. She also leaves many cousins, nieces and nephews in Canada and the United States.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, November 12th at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 82 Exchange Street, Millis, MA followed by burial at Prospect Hill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 4-8 PM on Monday, November 11th at Roberts-Mitchell Funeral Home, 90 Curve Street, Millis, MA.
