Burley Wayne Dye, age 72, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Friday (January 31, 2025) at Johnson City Medical Center in Johnson City, Tennessee. Born February 14, 1952 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late James Odell Dye and Rosetta Perkins Dye Conlon. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a former coal miner, having been employed by several area coal mines. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, riding motorcycles, and working on cars, but nothing brought him greater joy than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, John Conlon and one step-brother, Mike Conlon.
Survivors include his wife of forty-nine years, Velma Sue Dye of the home; one daughter, Carey Ellen Dye and fiancé, Kevin Holman of Taylorsville, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Ryan Crabtree and wife, Alexis, Jordan Crabtree and Jacob Crabtree all of Rosedale, Virginia; three great-grandchildren, Audree Crabtree, Addyson Crabtree and Gage Crabtree all of Rosedale, Virginia; step-brother, Jim Conlon of Newcomerstown, Ohio; mother-in-law, Willa Dellamae Wilson of Saltville, Virginia; several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Tuesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ellis Whited officiating. Interment will follow in the Dye Cemetery on Apple Blossom Road in Swords Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Crabtree, Jordan Crabtree, Jacob Crabtree, Kevin Holman, Hunter Hayes and Travis Harris.
Honorary pallbearers will be McArthur Miller, Brant Latham, Jackie Wayne Miller, Ronnie Dye and Jerry Justice.
The family receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Monday.
